NaNoWriMo 2019

November 1, 2019

The last few months have put me in a very strange and unfamiliar kind of writing head space. I wouldn't call it a block in the traditional sense, because it's almost the exact opposite in a way. A lot of blocks come from a lack of ideas, which leads to not knowing what to write. Instead, I've been getting a lot of ideas that all want attention at once. Which leads to the very different kind of frustration of being paralyzed by choice.

That's kind of what I've been feeling while prepping for this year's NaNo. There are two story ideas that are refusing to take a backseat to each other or anything else, so I'm going to try something I've never actually tried before--writing two different first drafts in tandem with each other.

And when I say different, I'm talking very different. One is very much a YA Contemporary, while the other I would consider more of an Urban Fantasy--which isn't a genre I've tried to tackle before. I've bulletpoint planned quite a bit of both stories, but that doesn't necessarily make me prepared in this case. This one should be a pretty different ride.

But this will be my tenth year doing NaNoWriMo, so it only makes sense to mix it up a little. About an hour left in my time zone before November begins, so here's hoping these two new projects will have a smooth start getting off the ground.
